(Summary description)Factors that affect the adhesion and its strength

The basic considerations of the above-mentioned bonding theory are all related to the molecular structure of the adhesive and the surface structure of the adherend as well as the interaction between them. The destruction experiment of the bonding system shows that there are four different situations when the bonding is broken:

1. Interface failure: the adhesive layer is completely separated from the surface of the sticky body (the adhesive interface is completely detached);

2. Cohesion failure: failure occurs in the adhesive or the adherend itself, not between the adhesive interface;

3. Mixed damage: The adherend and the adhesive layer themselves are partially damaged or there is only one of the two.

These failures indicate that the bonding strength is not only related to the force between the adherend and the adherend, but also the force between the molecules of the polymer adhesive.

The chemical structure and aggregation state of polymer molecules strongly affect the bonding strength. Research on the molecular structure of adhesive base materials is very important for the design, synthesis and selection of adhesives.
